SoftBank Group CEO Masayoshi Son reportedly plans to borrow $16bn this year to invest in AI, and may continue to borrow another $8bn in early 2026. This comes as a series of efforts by Softbank to expand into the sector. The $16bn investment would be on top of the $15bn it has already committed to Stargate, a joint venture by Oracle, OpenAI and SoftBank, that plans to invest up to $500bn in the United States AI industry. Additionally, it has been previously reported that SoftBank was in talks to invest up to $25bn in ChatGPT owner OpenAI.
SoftBank’s dollar bonds were trading stable, with its 6.875% Perp at 99.82, yielding 6.96%.
