Argentina’s President Javier Milei is set to travel to the US on Wednesday where he plans to meet IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva. Milei will be accompanied by key officials, including Economy Minister Luis Caputo. He aims to finalize a new financing deal with the IMF, which Caputo believes is close to completion. The president’s visit follows controversy surrounding his promotion of cryptocurrency, $LIBRA, which led to a surge and subsequent crash in its value. Milei has distanced himself from the project. During the trip, Milei will also meet with World Bank President Ajay Banga and deliver a speech at the IDB. There are no formal plans for a meeting with Donald Trump, but an informal encounter is possible. Milei’s government is also keen to discuss a free-trade agreement with the US and governance reforms with Musk.
