The United States has signaled to Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky that Kyiv must accept a US-drafted framework intended to end the war with Russia, according to sources. This proposal represents a concession for Ukraine, as it requires the country to give up territory, reduce the size of its armed forces, and potentially relinquish some weapons. The US is reportedly urging Kyiv to accept the main points and has also discussed the proposals with Russia. A source added that Ukraine had no involvement in drafting the proposals. This comes amid President Zelensky addressing a domestic corruption scandal, making the potential acceptance of such a plan a major political and strategic setback for them, as per analysts.
Following this, Ukraine’s dollar bonds ticked higher by ~1.5 points across the curve – its 4.5% 2035s have rallied to trade at 55.5, yielding 14.9%.
