Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp. (NTT) has secured enough bids to fully acquire NTT Data Group Corp. in a JPY 2.37tn ($16.3bn) deal, aiming to enhance its AI capabilities and simplify its corporate structure. The Japanese company will start the settlement on 26 June, it said in a statement Friday. NTT, which already owns 58% of NTT Data, offered JPY 4,000 per share to take the company private.The acquisition strengthens NTT’s position in the global AI and data center landscape and aligns with Japan’s push to build a domestic AI ecosystem to rival global players like OpenAI. It also reflects a broader trend in Japan, where conglomerates are streamlining ownership structures under regulatory pressure. Similar recent moves include NEC and Toyota’s internal consolidations.
NTT’s dollar bonds traded stable with its 5.136% 2031s at 102.1, yielding 4.73%.
