Sri Lanka’s central bank governor Nandalal Weerasinghe said that the government has shared the details and terms of its $4.2bn China debt deal with its other sovereign creditors and the IMF. its sovereign creditors include Japan, India and the Paris Club of nations that plan to propose a debt restructuring agreement for Sri Lanka. The governor added in his interview, that he expects the finalization of the restructuring agreement to lead to the IMF approving a $330mn payout before end-2023. However, he did not provide the terms and details in the interview. The update comes after Sri Lanka reached a preliminary deal with China EXIM bank last month. The governor said that Sri Lanka was inline with targets set out in the IMF program including building up forex reserves.
Sri Lanka’s dollar bonds were slightly weaker with its 6.35% 2024s down 1 point to 50.8 cents on the dollar.
