Uber said that it will invest up to $1.25bn in EV maker Rivian. It plans to make an initial investment of $300mn, and will fund the rest through 2031, subject to Rivian meeting certain milestones. This is part of a deal in which Uber plans to start deploying 10,000 fully autonomous R2 SUVs as robotaxis from 2028. For Rivian, the investment comes at an important time by providing it capital and a major commercial partner.
While Uber’s bonds were trading stable, Rivian’s 10% 2031s jumped higher by 1.9 points to trade at 98.1, yielding 10.5%.
