Senegal’s President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has appointed a new cabinet, removing several key members of the Pastef party co-founded by former Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko. He appointed new ministers for the following portfolios — Energy & Petroleum, Mines & Geology, Infrastructure, Urban Planning & Territorial Governance and Defense. Following lengthy discussions, Pastef’s executive committee announced a total boycott, stating the party will refuse any future representation or participation in the government. Despite the political conflict, the President retained Cheikh Diba as Finance Minister, with analysts noting that it was designed to reassure international investors as he is currently leading the negotiations with the IMF to restore a $1.8bn program that was frozen in 2024. The overall update comes after Faye recently dissolved the government and dismissed Sonko, replacing him with Ahmadou Al Aminou Mohamed Lo.
Senegal’s 6.25% 2033s were trading higher by 1.7 points at 54.1, yielding 18.1%.
