Egypt unlocked ~$1.8bn in financing after the IMF’s executive board completed the seventh review under the Extended Fund Facility program. The review clears $1.5bn for immediate disbursement, while the board separately approved access to an additional $272mn under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility. The IMF noted Egypt faced the fallout from the Middle East war from a stronger macroeconomic position than in prior episodes. Egypt had more than doubled its existing IMF program to $8bn in early 2024. The board’s approval followed its determination that Egypt made sufficient progress on state asset sales, alongside publishing a document outlining future public-ownership plans and amendments to value-added tax rules aimed at boosting revenue. Separately, the European Commission disbursed €1.5bn ($1.73bn) to Egypt this month under a €4bn Macro-Financial Assistance program, releasing the second of three tranches.
Egypt’s 8.7% 2049s were up by 0.5 points to 95, yielding 9.2%
